Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday has declared that January 16 will be observed as the National Start-up Day from this year. The idea is to make sure that the entrepreneurial and startups culture is being appreciated, recognized, and motivated among the people in the country. In video conferencing, Modi interacted with youngsters from the startup world. He also mentioned how this decade of India is the techade of the country.

Modi also said that the government is bringing about huge changes on 3 main aspects to strengthening innovation, fostering entrepreneurship, and boosting the startup ecosystem in this decade. Modi discussed the 3 major goals such as:

1) To free Entrepreneurship from the web of government processes, from bureaucratic silos innovation. 

2) To build an institutional mechanism to promote innovation. 

3) Handholding young innovators, young enterprise.

The startup companies from different sectors such as agriculture, health, enterprise systems, space, industry 4.0, security, fintech, environment came together to be a part of the online interaction.

Modi also shared that the central government is putting up efforts to bring about more interest towards innovation in the students’ life right from their childhood. More than 9,000 Atal Tinkering Labs are providing children a chance to innovate in schools and work on innovative and latest ideas. 

He also appreciated India’s 46th rank in the Global Innovation Index and stressed the importance of the government’s efforts to encourage innovation that has enhanced the country’s ranking. He said in the online address that startups are going to be the backbone of new India. He also showed the brighter side of India when it completes 100 years of independence and how startups will have a major role to play in this feat. The nation’s creators are making India proud all over the world, said Modi during the online conference.

With more than 61,000 identified startups by the division for the promotion of industry and internal trade, the government recognizes India as the globe’s 3rd largest startup ecosystem.
