A group of students were arrested by the Prayagraj Police on Tuesday for reportedly attempting to halt a train while protesting the railway recruiting process. Despite the fact that the train was not halted, the officers conducted a search for those who attempted to disrupt railway services in order to call attention to issues regarding railway recruitment under Group D. The incident occurred in Prayagraj’s Chhota Baghara neighbourhood.

Soon after, videos of police officers allegedly breaking into students’ hostel rooms went popular on social media, with both the Congress and the Samajwadi Party tweeting about the incident. The cops are allegedly seen thrashing pupils, smashing down their doors, and taking them out on the footage. Cops were seen chasing the demonstrators and striking them with batons in another video.

According to ASP Dinesh Kumar Singh of Prayagraj, several lads from a lodge rushed to the streets in large numbers on Wednesday, asking that railway recruitment be done. They arrived at a railway track and attempted to protest by stopping a train. Despite the fact that the train was not halted, Singh stated that the police are on the lookout for anyone involved in the demonstration. He stated that they will face severe consequences.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress national secretary, condemned the crackdown on students looking for work and accused the UP Police of attacking the students and vandalising their hostel.

Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, shared images of cops baton-charging students, saying that such “misbehaviour with the students will lead to the BJP‘s historic downfall.”

However, SSP Ajay Kumar of Prayagraj said that police had received information that thousands of students had caused a ruckus outside Prayag Railway Station, blocking the rail track. There was also a fear that some miscreants would set fire to the trains, so cops arrived with riot control equipment and dispersed the demonstrators, he claimed.
