One out of every 3 women in the world has faced physical, sexual violence: WHO study

Geneva: A new study by the United Nations Health Agency and its partners found that nearly one in three women worldwide have experienced physical or sexual harassment in their lifetime. The report released by the World Health Organization on Tuesday is based on a study.

The agency says that this study is the largest study on violence against women. It also found that a quarter of the young women who were in a relationship experienced violence by their partner by the time they reached the age of about 25. The figure covers the period from 2010 to 2018.

It does not include the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. According to the study, there has been an increase in domestic violence against women as in many places governments ordered lockdown and other restrictions which led to many people staying indoors.

“The violence against women is in every country and culture, causing harm to millions of women and their families, and has escalated due to the Covid-19 epidemic,” said World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adenom Grabeyesus. Urged governments, individuals and communities to help solve the problem.
