NPR work in UP postponed till further orders

Lucknow. In Uttar Pradesh, the work of National Population Register i.e. NPR 2021 has been postponed. In the first phase, the work of listing and counting of houses was to be done. For this, the time was fixed from 16 May to 20 June.

Principal Secretary Jitendra Kumar issued an order in this regard on Friday. He has informed all the Mandalayuktas and District Magistrates about the postponement of the first phase of census works till further orders, citing a letter sent to the Chief Secretaries of all the states on behalf of the High Commissioner and Census Commissioner of the country.

He said that the listing of houses to be held from May 16 to June 20, the census of houses, the National Population Register and other activities related to the operation of the census should be postponed.

Explain that both the procedures related to NPR were to be completed between April 1 and September 30. The Home Ministry had said in a statement that the census was to be completed in two phases. These include house listing and census of houses during April to September under the first phase and population enumeration during February 9 to 28.

The NPR was also proposed to be updated with the first phase of the 2021 census in all states and union territories except Assam. Officials said that since the census and NPR process required personnel to go to every house and meet people. Due to the current situation it is not possible to do so. Therefore, the decision to postpone it has been taken by the government.
