No entry to CBI in Maharashtra without permission

Mumbai: The Thackeray government, taking a major decision, has withdrawn the consensus given to the Central Bureau of Investigation to investigate the state’s affairs. The reason for this decision is that now without the permission of the Maharashtra government, the CBI will not be able to investigate the cases here. Earlier, three non-BJP ruled states of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal withdrew the general consent given to the CBI, so that the CBI could not investigate the cases under their jurisdiction.

The order issued by the Maharashtra Home Department on Wednesday came immediately after the Uttar Pradesh government registered an FIR in the Television Rating Points (TRP) scam and handed it over to the CBI. This decision of the UP government is seen as ending the investigation being carried out by the Mumbai Police against Republic TV. According to sources, the Maharashtra government has taken this decision because of this. The Mumbai Police is investigating the TRP scam against three television channels including Republic TV. The scam came to light when the ratings agency Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) complained that some channels were rigging TRP numbers to lure advertisers. The Mumbai Police has arrested 8 people in this case.
