Jaipur : Nina Singh, a 1989-batch IPS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, has become the first woman in the state to reach the highest position in the police force, Director General. She is presently the Director General of the Civil Rights and Anti-Human Trafficking Cell at the Department of Justice. In Rajasthan, there are six senior police officers holding the rank of Director General.
Nina Singh had a distinguished career as a police officer, with a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. Her work on police reforms alongside Nobel laureates Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo is one of her accomplishments. She worked on a project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005-2006 to make police stations more accessible to the general public.

Nina Singh received the Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal for professional excellence last year. She has concentrated on women’s concerns during her service. Nina Singh devised an outreach programme for the State Women’s Commission in 2000, in which members of the commission would go to districts to attend hearings for women in distress.

She has previously worked with the CBI as a joint director and was involved in the investigation of high-profile cases such as the PNB scam involving Nirav Modi. Umesh Mishra, ADG (intelligence), has now been elevated to DG alongside her (intelligence).
