Need a balance between health and economy’: Thackeray

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Saturday that he was not in favor of removing the lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of corona virus in the state solely due to economic concerns. He said that considering the challenge posed by the global epidemic, there is a need to strike a balance between health and economy related issues.

He said, “I would never say that the lockdown would be completely lifted.” But I have started to reopen some things slowly. Once reopened it should not be closed again. So I want to do it step by step. You cannot just think about the economy or health. There is a need to strike a balance between the two. “

Thackeray made this statement in an interview published in Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ on Saturday. The state-imposed lockdown will last until July 31. From June onwards, the government started removing the restrictions in a phased manner under its ‘Mission Begin Again’ initiative. The Chief Minister said, “This epidemic is a global war. It has impacted the whole world. Countries that hastily removed the lockdown thinking that the disease was gone are forced to re-impose sanctions to prevent it from spreading. In Australia, he had to seek military assistance. “
