Mumbai Police registers FIR against bogus promotion order

The Marine Drive Police has recorded an FIR against an unknown person for releasing a fake order that gives promotion to five additional district collectors to Indian Administrative Service (IAS). The case has been registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Joint secretary Dr. Madhav Veer because the fake order has been issued in his name. According to the complaint, no such promotion order has been released by the government, said the police.

A copy of the promotion order started getting circulated on social media platforms on January 6 this year. Moreover, it started making rounds on the WhatsApp groups of government officials. As per the order, Ramdas Khedkar, Personal Secretary to the Revenue Minister has been promoted to the position of Chief Secretary of the revenue division.

As per the order, Ramdas Khedkar, Personal Secretary to the Revenue Minister, was upgraded to the post of Chief Secretary of the revenue department. Also, Gadchiroli additional collector Unmesh Mahajan was assigned as Gondia District Collector, Thane Municipal Corporation additional commissioner Sanket Chavan was upgraded to the additional commissioner (A Grade), Amravati Additional Collector Manisha Waze as Additional Municipal Commissioner and Dhananjay Nikam, Additional Collector of Bhandara, was elevated to District Collector of the district.

Usually, the promotion orders or transfers to the Indian Administrative Service are released by the general administration department. However, the January 6 order was released by the Revenue and Forest Department and thus, doubts came into the picture about its originality, said the police official.

However, an initial inquiry about the order ensured that it is a fake one and the bogus order was found to be released by faking the signature of joint secretary Madhav Veer. It is good to see that timely action is being taken to resolve the issues then and there itself rather than more fake officials getting promoted inside the government offices.
