Mob attack on agitating farmers, uprooted tents, stone pelting on Singhu border

New Delhi: There was a fierce ruckus between the farmer protesters and local protesters on Delhi’s Singhu border on Friday. The two factions were stoned and attacked each other. Local protesters had been demonstrating against the agitators since Friday morning and there was a demand to vacate the highway. During this period, farmers’ tents were also uprooted. The police resorted to lathi-charge and fired tear gas shells to control the situation following the uproar, during which SHO of Alipur police station Pradeep Paliwal was injured. Some farmers have also been injured in this clash.

Locals were demanding that the farmers vacate the protest site on the Singhu border as according to them, during the tractor parade on Republic Day, protesters insulted the national flag.

At around 1 pm in the afternoon, the crowd reached the protest venue. There was only a concrete border barricade between the farmers and these protesters. For some time the crowd remained the same, then they started shouting slogans of ‘goli maro salon ko ..’. After some time these people started vandalizing. First the farmers broke the washing machines and then started uprooting their tents, etc.

The police released tear gas shells, after which the situation could be controlled. In this incident, a local SHO was also attacked by a person with a sword.

Explain that till Friday afternoon a large number of police force was deployed here, but some 200 people arrived here and threw stones and uprooted the farmers’ tents. After the situation deteriorated, the police had to release tear gas shells and the farmers have appealed to make peace. It is not clear yet how the crowd of people has reached the venue.
