Meerut: Attempts to influence the postponed election of MCMC by holding an illegal meeting

Meerut: Questions have arisen regarding the meeting of the Meerut College Executive Committee to be held on June 28. Objecting to this meeting, Friends of Meerut College had submitted a complaint letter to the Vice Chancellor, CCS University. On behalf of the Vice Chancellor Chaudhary Charan Singh University, a letter has been issued to the President / Acting Secretary, Meerut Collegiate Association, prohibiting taking any policy decision in the said meeting and ordering the postponed elections to be held soon. On the other hand, Friends of Meerut College says that most of the candidates of Dr. Ramkumar Gupta panel are not willing to contest the elections and the danger of defeat is looming in front of them. That’s why he is trying to start the process of postponed elections by going against the rules.

Voting for the Meerut College Management Committee (MCMC) election was to be held on April 18 last. But due to the lockdown, it was decided to postpone the elections. Despite the election code of conduct being in force, Dr. Ramkumar Gupta has called a meeting of the Meerut College Executive Committee on June 28 at 4 pm, describing himself as the unpaid secretary. In the agenda of this meeting, it has also been written to consider and decide on releasing the election program of Meerut College Management Committee.

Friends of Meerut College had objected to this proposed meeting by writing a letter to the Vice Chancellor, CCS University. It has been said on behalf of Friends of Meerut College that all the processes for the Meerut College Management Committee elections were completed and only voting and counting of votes were left. Returning officers were also appointed to conduct the elections. It was stated that the election process cannot be resumed as per rules due to the death of a nominated candidate after the postponement of the election to be held on April 18. Describing the meeting to be held on June 28 as illegal, he had demanded a ban on any kind of meeting till the adjourned elections are over.

Taking cognizance of this letter, the Vice Chancellor, Chaudhary Charan Singh University has written a letter to the President / Acting Secretary, Meerut Collegiate Association, saying that in the order issued earlier by the University, appointing you as the Acting Secretary, at the earliest. The election was asked to be held. An observer was appointed for the proposed election on April 18, but due to unavoidable reasons, the election was not held on that date. You are ordered to conduct the postponed elections of Meerut Collegiate Association at the earliest. The CCSU Vice Chancellor has prohibited the proposed meeting of June 28 from taking any kind of policy decision.

Anil Kumar Gupta, Presidential candidate from Vivek Garg Panel of Friends of Meerut College said, Dr. Ramkumar Gupta is illegally working as unpaid secretary. For the last two years, neither the Annual General Meeting was convened by the Managing Committee nor the audit was presented in any way. He is trying to avoid the defeat for some time by restarting the postponed election process.

Vivek Garg, the secretary post candidate from Friends of Meerut College’s Vivek Garg panel appealed to conduct the postponed elections of Meerut College Management Committee with purity and transparency. Vivek Garg said that development work is not being done in Meerut College due to non-concluded elections. At the same time, the interest of teachers and students are also getting affected due to non-taking of policy decisions. Speedy and fair elections are in the interest of Meerut College and everyone should take care of the interests of Meerut College without worrying about personal profit and loss.

Keshav Bandhu, the candidate for the post of Additional Secretary, expressed his gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Chaudhary Charan Singh University and said that he has full faith that the postponed elections of Meerut College Management Committee under the direction of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor will be completed quickly and with fairness and transparency.
