Kerala on alert after 13 more cases of Zika virus

Thiruvananthapuram: The cases of Zika virus infection in Kerala rose to 14 on Friday. The National Institute of Virology confirmed 13 more cases. After this the state has been alerted. In Kerala, this mosquito-borne disease was confirmed in a 24-year-old pregnant woman on Thursday. This was the first case of Zika virus in the state. At the same time, a central team of experts has left for Kerala to monitor the situation of Zika virus.

According to the state government, 19 samples were sent to the institute for testing, out of which 13 have been confirmed to have Zika virus. Its symptoms are similar to that of dengue, in which there is fever, rashes and joint pain. State Health Minister Veena George said that an action plan has been prepared for the prevention of Zika infection.

A six-member central team of experts left for the southern state to monitor the Zika virus situation in Kerala and assist the state government in managing the cases.
