Washington: US President Joe Biden on Monday warned of a new ban on the country, calling the military coup in Myanmar a direct attack on the move towards democracy. The US criticized the move on Monday to detain the country’s top leaders, including state counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.
According to media reports, it was announced Monday morning on Army-owned television channel ‘Mayawadi TV’ that the army has taken control of the country for a year. “The coup by Burma (Myanmar) army, the detention of Aung San Suu Kyi and other authorities and the declaration of a national emergency is a direct attack on the democratic transfer of power in the country,” Biden said in a statement. He said, “In a democracy, the army should not ignore the will of the people.” For almost a decade, the people of Burma have been continuously working for elections, establishing democratic governments and peaceful power transfers. This progress must be respected. ” The US President also called on the global community to pressurize the Myanmar army in one voice.
