It is good that rotten elements are leaving the party, Mamata says on resignation of MLAs

Kolkata: The Chief Minister of West Bengal attacked rebel leaders. Many TMC MLAs have resigned. Several MLAs including Shubhendu Adhikari, Banashree Maiti and Sheelabhadra Dutta resigned and joined the BJP.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said in the party meeting that it is good that the rotten elements are coming out on their own. She called the leaders leaving the party a burden for the party. Banerjee held an internal meeting with select leaders at his residence to take stock of the situation.

According to party sources, Banerjee told the Trinamool leaders not to worry as the people of the state are with her. A senior Trinamool Congress leader said, “During the meeting, our party supremo told us not to worry about the leaders leaving the party because it is good that the rotten elements are leaving the party.”

Trinamool Congress MLA Banashree Maiti resigned from the primary membership of the party. This is the fourth blow to the Trinamool in the last 48 hours. Maiti, a two-time MLA from Kanthi North constituency in West Bengal, said that she has sent her resignation by email to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. She joined the BJP. In her letter, Maiti said, “I am resigning from the primary membership of Trinamool Congress.” The senior leader of Trinamool Congress in East Midnapore district is considered close to Shubhendu Adhikari.
