New Delhi: Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, the head of the CISF, has been appointed as the new director of the CBI. After several meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and Leader of Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, notification of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal’s appointment as CBI Chief was issued by the government this evening. Subodh Jaiswal is a 1985 batch IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre. He is currently serving as the head of the CISF.
Earlier, he had held the posts of Mumbai Police Commissioner and Maharashtra DGP before being called for central deputation earlier this year. He has a long tenure in the Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), although he has no experience of serving in the CBI.
Jaiswal investigated Telgi scam in Maharashtra, which was later taken over by the CBI. Jaiswal was then heading the State Reserve Police Force. He then joined the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad and served in the Research and Analysis Wing for nearly a decade.
He returned to the state during BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis government and in June 2018, he was appointed as Mumbai’s Police Commissioner. He later served as the DGP of Maharashtra.
