Instructions to implement ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ scheme by July 31

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed all the states and union territories to implement the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ scheme by July 31.

A division bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice MR Shah has issued several guidelines to the central and state governments regarding the welfare of migrant laborers.

The top court has also asked the government to prepare a web portal with the help of National Informatics Center (NIC) for registration of unorganized and migrant laborers.

In its order on suo motu case for exodus of migrant laborers due to corona pandemic and rectification of unfortunate situation, the court said that the governments should provide ration for migrant workers and community kitchens should be continued till the pandemic continues.

The bench directed the Center to provide additional food grains to the states as per their demand, and also asked the state governments to make suitable plans for distribution of ration to the migrant laborers.

Under the ‘One Nation-One Ration Card’ scheme, ration can be taken from any part of the country, although apart from Delhi, this scheme has not yet been implemented by the state governments in West Bengal and Assam.
