Indian officials returned from Dominica without Mehul Choksi

New Delhi: The extradition case of absconding diamond merchant Mehul Choksi may now take a long time. Actually, the court of Dominica has just postponed the hearing in this case. In such a situation, Indian officials who went to Dominica have now returned to the country. These officers had left for Dominica on 27 May in a chartered plane.

The High Court of Dominica on Thursday adjourned the hearing on the habeas corpus petition filed by diamond merchant Mehul Choksi.

Local media outlet Antigua Newsroom reported that Justice Bernie Stephenson would set a date for the next hearing in the case after hearing both sides. The matter was heard through video conference. During that time a group of protesters were demonstrating in front of the High Court building in Roseau and were holding placards. They were demanding to tell the truth of the matter. Several placards read, “Who brought Choksi to Dominica?”

The High Court is hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Choksi’s lawyers. Choksi is an accused in the Punjab National Bank fraud case worth thousands of crores.
