Neeraj Chopra won a historic gold medal in the men’s javelin competition, making the 2020 Tokyo Olympics the best Olympic campaign in India. On Saturday, Chopra made history as India’s first independent athlete to win a medal in track and field. Norman Pritchard was the first athlete from Indian to win medals at the Olympics. He won at the 1900 Olympics when India was still under East India Company’s occupation. His first 87.03m throw in the final was enough to win the gold medal tonight, but he raised it to 87.58m in the next attempt, which was still the best throw of the night.
