Following the BJP parliamentary gathering in Gandhinagar on Sunday, Bhupendra Patel, an MLA from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was appointed the next Chief Minister of Gujarat. Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar announced that he would be sworn in as Gujarat’s next chief minister soon. Patel is a BJP MLA from Gujarat’s Ghatlodiya Assembly district and has previously served as the head of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation‘s standing committee and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority.
On September 13, the new chief minister and the council of ministers are expected to be sworn in. Gujarat will have legislative elections in December 2022. Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar stated that Bhupendra Patel would be sworn in as Gujarat’s next chief minister soon.

Vijay Rupani abruptly resigned yesterday without giving a reason, a move that surprised many. He stated that the state’s growth should continue under “new leadership” and “direction” from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rupani was re-elected as CM in 2017 after surviving the incumbency factor and a violent quota protest by the Patidars, with the BJP gaining 99 seats in the 182-member legislature.
Despite what many viewed as an arduous struggle, the Congress managed to gain 77 members. Following Rupani’s resignation, numerous names were floated, but the BJP’s choice of Bhupendra Patel was a surprise, as he was not among the frontrunners.
Nitin Patel‘s name was mentioned as a possible successor. He responded by saying that the future CM must be famous, influential, and experienced and someone well-known and acceptable to everybody. On Saturday, state BJP head CR Patil, who was rumored to be a contender, denied the rumors and stated that he was not in the contest.

“Today, Vijay Rupani resigned from his position. Naturally, several names for the future Chief Minister have been floated in the media, including mine. I want to be clear that I am not participating in any such race. We will achieve our goal of winning 182 out of 182 seats in the upcoming assembly elections with the help of the new chief minister selected by the party and Vijay Rupani, and we will endeavor to build the party, “Patil said.
