Govt Advises BCCI to Seek Permission Before Organizing Foreign Tours

Youth and Sports Federation Minister Anurag Thakur said on Saturday that BCCI should consult with the government before sending Indian cricket teams to South Africa where a new strain of COVID-19 has been discovered. The World Health Organization (WHO) issued an alert to the country on Friday after a new version of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID19) was detected in South Africa.

“It is not appropriate to send the squad to a place where a threat exists; if BCCI approaches us, we would consider this “In Baghpat, Thakur said. India will play three Tests, three One-Day Internationals, and four Twenty20 Internationals in South Africa next month. The trip will kick off on December 17th.

The novel COVID-19 variation B.1.1.529, which was discovered in South Africa, was called ‘Omicron’ by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Saturday. The WHO convened a conference to study the newly discovered COVID-19 variant. “The newly found coronavirus B.1.1.529 variant is a cause for alarm. It contains more mutations than other worrying variations that science is aware of. This new variation has been classified as “worrisome” by the WHO, according to the release. Scientists have given this variation the name B.1.1.529. Following the conference, WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier stated that preliminary investigation suggests that this variation includes a substantial number of mutations that require and will be studied further.
