NewDelhi: According to the International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, global smartphone shipments grew 13.2 percent year on year in Q2 2021, reaching 313.2 million shipments. Samsung maintained its market leadership, followed by China’s Xiaomi, which overtook Apple to take second place in terms of smartphone shipments. According to IDC, Huawei’s continued slide and LG’s exit from the smartphone industry resulted in a minor adjustment in market positions in Q2 2021. The 13.2 percent growth in the smartphone market outperforms IDC’s estimate of 12.5 percent growth.
According to the IDC report, Samsung shipped 59 million units worldwide in Q2 2021, gaining an 18.8 percent market share. In the same quarter last year, the South Korean conglomerate shipped 54 million units. Xiaomi shipped 53.1 million units, accounting for 16.9 percent of the market. This represents an increase of 86.6 percent year on year. Apple, based in Cupertino, came in third place in terms of smartphone shipments, with 44.2 million units shipped and a market share of 14.1 percent. Oppo and Vivo finished fourth and fifth, with 32.8 and 31.6 smartphones shipped, respectively. Oppo had a 10.5 percent market share, while Vivo had a 10.1 percent market share.
According to IDC, Motorola, TCL, and OnePlus have achieved year-on-year growth in the United States beyond what they have seen in recent years due to the LGs department. Companies in China like Xiaomi, Apple, Oppo, and Vivo benefited from Huawei’s quick slide. According to IDC, Chinese smartphone company Realme had the best year-over-year increase in the top ten brands in Q2 2021. The company experienced a 149 percent increase in volume, with more than three-quarters of its revenue coming from outside of China.
