Former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh died at age 64

New Delhi: Amar Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP and former Samajwadi Party leader, died at the age of 64 on Saturday afternoon. Amar Singh had been ill for a long time and was undergoing treatment in Singapore for a few months. A recent report published in Mumbai Mirror stated that he was in the ICU.

Amar Singh was currently a Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh. On 5 July 2016, he was elected to the High Membership. His activism was reduced after his ouster from the Samajwadi Party. However, he was growing closer to the Bharatiya Janata Party before he became ill. His political journey began in 1996 with being elected a member of the Rajya Sabha.

Prior to this, he has also been elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2002 and 2008. Apart from SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar Singh also has a very close relationship with megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s family. He had a time in the Samajwadi Party.
