Flying Sikh Milkha Singh passes away

India’s great sprinter Milkha Singh has passed away. He breathed his last at the age of 91 at the PGI Hospital in Chandigarh. He was fighting Corona for the last one month. Four-time Asian Games gold medalist Milkha Singh was admitted to the hospital in May after being found corona positive. This veteran, who made many records in track and field, is called Flying Sikh. He was given this name by Pakistan’s military ruler General Ayub Khan in 1960 after defeating the then famous sprinter Abdul Khaliq in the race. Milkha was also very close to winning an Olympic medal in 1960 but finished fourth by a narrow margin.

Milkha Singh was admitted to PGI on 3 June. Earlier, he was undergoing treatment at home but was taken to the hospital due to low oxygen level. Although he had come Corona negative on Wednesday. After this he was shifted from Covid ICU to normal ICU. But his condition had become critical due to complications caused by this disease. Under this, his oxygen level had decreased on Friday and fever came. Hospital sources had told that his condition had become critical.

After this a statement also came from his family. It was said, ‘Day was a bit difficult for Milkha ji. But he is struggling with it.’ Earlier, his wife Nirmal Kaur died at a private hospital in Mohali on June 13 while battling Covid-19 infection. Kaur herself had been an athlete. She had been the captain of the Indian women’s volleyball team. Nirmal Kaur was married to Milkha Singh in the year 1962. They both have two children. One son, Jeev Milkha Singh, who is an Indian golfer. And the other is his daughter, who is a doctor in America.
