Five die due to landslide after heavy rains in Idukki, Kerala

New Delhi: At least 5 people have died due to landslides in Idukki district of Kerala on Friday morning amid heavy rains. The landslide occurred in the Rajamalai region of the district. This place is about 25 km from Munnar, famous for tourism. According to officials, there are 70 to 80 people in the area who may be stranded due to landslides. However, the exact information is not yet known how many people are stranded.

Officials have said that there was a bridge to reach the affected area which has been broken. So there is difficulty in reaching here and rescue work is also being affected. However, some officials of the forest officer and other emergency services have reached the spot. According to the latest update, 10 people have been evacuated.

To deal with the situation, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also sought help from the Indian Air Force to reach the affected area by helicopter. The Chief Minister has also tweeted that a team of NDRF has arrived and another team in Thrissur is also going to arrive soon.
