First FIR registered in Bareilly under the new law of ‘Love Jihad’

Bareilly: After getting the Governor’s approval of the Unlawful Religion Ordinance in Uttar Pradesh, the first case under it has been registered in Bareilly. The first FIR has been registered in Bareilly under the new law on the charge of ‘Love Jihad’.

According to the police, a lawsuit has been registered under the Uttar Pradesh Law Unlawful Prohibition Prohibition Act 3/5 at Deorania, Bareilly, on charges of love jihad. The FIR has accused the accused of forcing them to forcibly convert. At present, the accused is absconding from home. A young man named Ubais Ahmed has been accused of luring the girl to convert.

On 24 November, the Uttar Pradesh government brought out the ‘Law Against Religion of Religion Conversion Ordinance 2020’ related to ‘Love Jihad’. Under this, there is a provision of punishment for 10 years for conversion of religion by deception. In addition, the District Magistrate needs to be informed two months in advance for conversion. Failure to provide information can lead to a sentence of six months to three years and a fine of up to Rs 10,000.

After the new ordinance, the person or guardian of such ‘crime’ will be able to lodge a complaint and the accused can be arrested. Once the case is registered, the accused will have to seek bail from the court. The important thing is that the accomplices of the accused can also be prosecuted under similar sections.
