The FIR against the Urdu poet Munawwar Rana was filed by the Madhya Pradesh police on the claimed injury to religious feelings by comparing Maharshi Valmiki, the author of the Ramayana, with the Taliban according to an official. Following a complaint made by Sunil Malviya, state secretary of the BJP’s Scheduled Caste cell, and other members of the Valmiki community, a case was launched against Rana in Guna on Monday.
Rana had claimed to a television station, “Valmiki was a dacoit before writing the Ramayana, and before that he was a God. A person’s personality can shift. Similarly, the Taliban remain terrorists for the time being, but individuals and personalities change.” Malviya claimed that Rana’s statements were disrespectful to Maharshi Valmiki and wounded the sentiments of the Valmiki community and Hindus.

The Taliban who wounded Hindus’ sacred feelings compared Maharshi Valmiki. He informed the journalists that “we have filed a complaint with him.” Superintendent Rajiv Mishra, Gunapolice, said on a Monday that “a complaint was submitted against Rana at the Kotwali police station.” According to the authorities, the IPC Section 505 (2) (statements which may lead to public misfortune) complaint was brought against Rana and submitted to Uttar Pradesh’s Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow.
