Washington: Facebook has suspended former US President Donald Trump on its platform for two years. Earlier in May, the social media network’s oversight board had voted in favor of maintaining the suspension of Donald Trump’s account on FB. Donald Trump’s account was suspended after the violence on January 6 in the US Parliament complex. Trump was accused of provoking his supporters for this incident.
In May, the oversight board said it was not appropriate for Facebook to impose a standard-less penalty of indefinite suspension. It said that Facebook again has six months to investigate the arbitrary penalty imposed on January 7 and fix any further penalty, which shows the seriousness of the violation and the possibility of future damages.
The board clearly stated that if Facebook decides to reinstate Donald Trump’s account, the company should be able to promptly detect further breaches. Let us tell you that Donald Trump has been permanently banned on the micro-blogging site Twitter.
