New Delhi: The United Kisan Morcha on Thursday turned down the proposal to postpone the government’s implementation of farm reform laws for a year and a half. The government’s proposal was rejected after the United Kisan Morcha lasted for nearly six hours and the demand for repeal of three agrarian reform laws was reiterated.
The government on Wednesday proposed to the farmers’ organizations to postpone agrarian reform laws for a year and a half. The farmers’ organizations of Punjab met before the Morcha meeting. According to farmer leaders, during the Morcha meeting, some farmer organizations expressed their views on the government’s proposal to take a positive stance while some organizations said that this is a golden opportunity to repeal the farm reform laws and farmers should take advantage of it. He said that later it would not be possible to make such a big movement.
Tomorrow is the eleventh round of negotiations between the farmers’ organizations and the government. Farmers’ organizations have also refused to join the committee set up by the Supreme Court to solve the problems of farmers. Bhupinder Singh Mann, a member of this committee, had separated himself from it.
