Farmers holding ‘Kisan Sansad’ at Jantar Mantar amid high security

NewDelhi: Amid the ongoing monsoon session of parliament, a group of 200 farmers protesting against the Centre’s three controversial agri laws started a ‘Kisan Sansad’ at Jantar Mantar from Thursday in Delhi, a few metres away from Parliament.

Farmer organizations told that they are holding this ‘Kisan Sansad’ to show the govt that their protest is still alive and also to tell the Central government that they too know how to run the Parliament. Meanwhile security has been tightened in the wake of protests since on last Republic Day farmer protest has gone out of control in Delhi resulting in govt property damage and vandalism by a group of miscreants in the guise of farmers. Delhi Police said that security has been tightened and enough security personnel have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situation.

The first day of protest in the form of ‘Kisan Sansad’ went peacefully.

Farmer leader Raminder Singh Patiala said, we will be conducting three sessions of the ‘Sansad’ where we select six members who will be chosen as speaker, deputy speaker for these three sessions. For the first session, farm leaders Hannan Mollah and Manjeet Singh were selected to conduct the proceedings.

Another farmer leader Shiv Kumar Kakka said after the untoward incident of Republic Day, the farmers associations this time have decided to make the gathering small. He said that ‘Neither we nor the government were comfortable with large gathering.

‘The members who want to speak are giving their names to the speaker and deputy speaker. There will be lunch and tea-break as well for the facility of farmers he said.

When questioned about the need of ‘Kisan Sansad’, at this time he said, the media is only reporting about Covid across the country which indirectly send the message was going that the agriculture protest was dying.

‘With ‘Kisan Sansad’, we have shown the country that the agitation is still alive and we will take our right from the govt,’ Kakka said.

Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait, who has been spearheading the farmers’ movement since last November not only in Delhi but across India, said that it took govt eight months before accepting us all sitting at Delhi’s borders are farmers.

All farmers know how to run its farm, home and country. Those siting in Parliament and representing us from opposition leaders or those in the government, if they don’t raise our concerns, we will raise our voice and issues against them in their constituency.
