Farmers agitation: Twitter blocked more than 250 Indian accounts on Govt request

New Delhi: Twitter had blocked more than 500 accounts in view of the tense situation following the violence in the capital Delhi during the tractor parade that took place on Republic Day during the Kisan agitation. Now the central government has ordered Twitter India to block more than 250 accounts. These accounts have been accused of spreading rumors about the peasant movement.

The move has been taken by Twitter following an order from the Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology, Government of India, in which Twitter has blocked more than 250 accounts and tweets of that account. Significantly, there were objectionable tweets about Prime Minister Narendra Modi connecting farmers. The account to be suspended includes accounts of several farmer leaders including Kisan Ekta Morcha and BKU Ekta Urgahan.

In its statement, Twitter has said that some accounts have also been labeled. These accounts are being closely monitored. Apart from this, if anyone finds something offensive or inflammatory, then he can report about that account and tweet.
