The current Uttar Pradesh assembly’s tenure ends in May, whereas the terms of the other four assemblies conclude in March.
There are now 1,74,351 voting booths in Uttar Pradesh. Due to the increase in Covid cases, the number of voters entitled to vote in a single polling booth has been reduced to 1,200 from 1,500.
Previously, the state had 1,64,472 polling booths, however this number has been expanded due to the Covid crisis.
The chief election commissioner indicated at the poll body’s most recent conference that all parties wanted assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh to be held on time, even as calls for campaign bans rose in the aftermath of the Covid spike.
