DRDO Scientist Behind Bombing at Delhi Court

The bombing at a court in Delhi earlier this month was carried out by a scientist from the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), according to police. The scientist reportedly planted the explosion to harm his next-door neighbour, a lawyer with whom he has a long-standing feud. In a statement to the media, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana claimed that the Special Cell team probing the case studied 1,000 automobiles that arrived at the Rohini court on that day and inspected material from over 100 CCTV cameras.

The investigation team also looked into the hearings that day and individuals who came to the court. The explosive device was made with ammonium nitrate, which is readily available, according to authorities. Only the detonator exploded, police said, and the bomb did not, implying that there would have been a considerably greater explosion otherwise. The insignia of a Mumbai-based business with a godown in Delhi appeared on the laptop bag in which the bomb was packed, police claimed, adding that the firm assisted them with the investigation.

According to officials, DRDO’s top scientist Bharat Katariya was arrested and bomb-making materials were found in his home. According to authorities, he pretended to be a lawyer and then fled after the explosion. According to the inquiry, Katariya and his neighbour and lawyer Amit Vashisht had a long-standing feud and had filed multiple lawsuits against each other over a variety of issues, including water supply.

Katariya reportedly put the device at the courthouse in order to assassinate Mr Vashisht, who was scheduled to appear in court that day, according to police. The accused’s ability to get explosives inside the courtroom is now being scrutinised. The accused purchased the bomb’s remote control and other materials from an e-commerce website, according to police. The location from where he prepared the bombs is currently being scrutinised.
