Delhi’s LG rejects the proposal of Kejriwal to repel weekend curfew

Anil Baijal, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, rejected Arvind Kejriwal’s proposal to take off Covid-19 restrictions and lift the weekend curfew in the national capital on Friday (January 21, 2022). The Lieutenant Governor, on the other hand, consented to allow private offices to reopen with a 50% capacity.

“In Pvt offices, we agreed to a 50% attendance rate. However, it was advised that the status quo be maintained in terms of weekend curfews and market openings, with a decision made once the COVID situation improves further,” LG House stated.

The Delhi administration had sought LG’s consent to remove certain restrictions earlier today, citing a decrease in Covid-19 cases in the national capital.

As the situation improves, the government has urged that relaxations such as easing the weekend curfew and ending the odd-even rule for retailers be granted. The Arvind Kejriwal government has also urged that private offices be allowed to call 50% of their employees instead of the present 100% work from home policy.

However, as part of the weekend curfew, all movements in Delhi would be limited from 10 p.m. on Fridays to 5 a.m. on Mondays. Only individuals involved in critical services and those in an emergency scenario are permitted to leave the house during the continuing weekend curfew. Passports or valid identification cards are necessary. Even all stores were closed, with the exception of those selling necessities such as groceries and medicines.

Meanwhile, according to data published by the city health department on Thursday, Delhi reported 12,306 new Covid-19 cases and 43 additional fatalities due to the viral disease, with the positive rate dropping to 21.48 percent.
