
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has disposed of a petition related to refund of fees charged from students on postponement of CBSE examinations. The court directed the CBSE to take the petition as a representation and decide within 8 weeks whether the examination fee, in full or part, can be refunded to the petitioner. The court also granted liberty to the petitioner to file a revised petition. CBSE told the Delhi High Court that it is a self-financing institution, it does not take funds from the center, the entire expenditure of the board depends on the examination fee, apart from the examinations of the students, the board also has to maintain the infrastructure All this runs from the examination fee only.
The court told the petitioner that it cannot be said that CBSE is not spending anything, CBSE will issue mark sheets to the students, CBSE says that the exam fee is their source of income.
Let us inform that a public interest litigation was filed in the Delhi High Court, in which there was a demand to waive the exam fee. It has been said in the petition that due to the corona epidemic, CBSE has canceled the 10th and 12th examinations, in such a situation the exam fee should be refunded. Social activist and lawyer Deepa Joseph has filed this public interest litigation. Apart from CBSE, the Union Education Ministry has also been made a party in the petition. Deepa’s children have also got registered this time to take the class X board exam. He said that for 7 subjects he deposited Rs 2100 in CBSE, but the examinations were cancelled. Also said that the results have not been released yet.
