Geneva: The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the corona virus epidemic will prove to be more deadly this year than last year. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that we are seeing this epidemic of corona virus becoming more deadly this time than last year. The WHO has said that over 33 lakh 46 thousand people have lost their lives due to corona till now. Meanwhile, Japan has extended the period of emergency in the country amid the demand to cancel the Olympics.
The Director General of WHO said that the number of deaths due to the epidemic has increased very fast. Japan has declared an emergency in three more areas just 10 weeks before the Olympics. While a campaign with more than 3 lakh 50 thousand signatures has called for the cancellation of the event. Tokyo and the surrounding area was under the order of emergency by the end of May, now Hiroshima, Okayama, North Hokkaido are also under its purview, where the Olympic Marathon is to be held.
Significantly, due to the fourth wave of Corona, Japan’s medical system is also under great pressure. The public is raising their voice against organizing Olympic Games there this year. Kenji Sunomiya, who was the candidate for the governorship of Tokyo, said that we should give priority to saving lives, not the ceremony. He has submitted a petition with more than three and a half lakh signatures to the city administrators.
