The Congress made a series of election promises on Saturday, days after AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra announced that 40 percent of party tickets would be reserved for women in the upcoming UP elections. These included giving smartphones and scooties to girl students, complete debt forgiveness for farmers, government jobs for 20 lakh people, and relief packages of Rs 25,000 to each Covid-affected family.

The grand old party has also offered MSPs of Rs 2,500 per quintal for rice and wheat and Rs 400 per quintal for sugarcane. Congress also stated that if it wins power in the state, electricity rates will be half. “UP mein Congress party 40 percent ticket mahilaon ko degi,” Priyanka stated during the major announcement on Tuesday.

Priyanka then responded to a query about contesting from Rae Bareli or Amethi, saying, “Ek-na-ek din toh ladna hi hai, na (I’ll have to fight from there one day, won’t it?).” She did clarify, though, that “no decision (on contesting the elections) has been made yet.”

“We’ll see how things progress,” she stated. Priyanka also noted that the party’s most recent move will assist “ordinary women.” “My struggle is for a new form of politics,” she said. It is for individuals who are unable to speak. So that change might arrive and bring the politics of service with it.”
