The official handle of the Congress party was banned by Twitter on Thursday, citing a violation of the microblogging site’s regulations. “Modiji, just how frightened are you?” the party questioned, criticizing such behaviour. The congress claimed and reminded the ruling BJP of its fight and struggle during independence using the nonviolent principles of Mahatma Gandhi.”
In response to the incident, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Social Media Head Rohan Gupta remarked that nothing would stop the party from speaking up for the people.

Gupta questioned Twitter’s move, claiming that the microblogging service had disabled its account for violating regulations, implying that Twitter was acting under government pressure. Under government pressure, Twitter is working. Why was the photo of the (Victim’s) family on the Scheduled Caste (SC) commission handle from August 2 to August 5 if it was a breach of Twitter policy?
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), which is the apex body in India to deal with child rights, took cognizance of Rahul Gandhi when he posted a tweet in which there was a picture of him interacting with the victim’s family. The 9-year-old Dalit girl who was raped and murdered in the national capital became a headline with protests all across the country.

The law protects a minor’s privacy, and posting any content that violates a minor’s privacy is deemed illegal. The NCPCR had sent a notice to Twitter to take down the objectionable content and take action against Rahul Gandhi. Apart from Rahul Gandhi, Ajay Maken, the party whip of Congress in Lok Sabha, and Randeep Surjewala, the media chief of Congress Twitter accounts, were blocked. Former Union minister Jitendra Singh and Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev had been locked on Wednesday.
