Beijing: The Chinese government has now allowed the couples to have three children. The government has taken this step as an improvement in the country’s population structure and as a solution to the country’s rapidly growing population. The official media of China has given this information. The decision has been announced on Monday after a meeting chaired by President Xi Jinping. A statement was issued saying that major steps need to be taken to solve the growing problem of the older population.
Actually, China released the official census data this month. Which showed that the country’s population has grown at a very slow rate in the last decade. The average annual growth rate in the last ten years was 0.53 per cent, while the same rate was below the rate of 0.57 per cent between 2000 and 2010. Experts had expressed concern over this rate of increase in population. Due to which the pressure on the Chinese government increased to ask couples to have more children, so that the reduction in population could be stopped.
China implemented a ‘One Child Policy’ in 1979 to curb the growing population. Those who violated this rule had to pay fines, lost their jobs and were forced to undergo abortions many times. In 2016, this policy was abolished and the couple was allowed to have two children.
