New Delhi: Niranjan Singh, a 65-year-old farmer from Tarn Taran district of Punjab, tried to die on Monday by consuming poison. Niranjan Singh is one of thousands of farmers agitating in Border Kondli. After being aware of the food poisoning of Niranjan, he was first taken to a hospital in Panipat and then to PGI Rohtak, where his condition is stable. After improving his health, Niranjan targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
He said, “I am feeling good now. The government will probably wake up when there are incidents like suicide attempt. When a person commits suicide, the police will file a case against the person who abetted them for this work. A case should be registered against PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in my case. How will anyone else live when the farmer is not alive? On the same day, Kulbir Singh, a farmer in Ferozepur, Punjab, committed suicide on Monday and returned after joining the Delhi movement. Kulbir had a debt of about 8 lakh rupees. Farmer leaders on Sunday paid tribute to the farmers died in the movement and were given martyr status. In Bathinda district of Punjab, even a 22-year-old farmer has died after returning from the movement.
