When the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party formed a Mahagatbandhan in 2018, RS Kushwaha, a Lakhimpur native, was the BSP’s Uttar Pradesh unit president. He has served as an MLA and MLC, and in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he ran against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi from the Rae Bareli constituency.
Expelled BSP leaders Ram Achal Rajbhar and Lalji Verma visited Akhilesh Yadav last week, sparking speculation about their political future. That was a courtesy call, according to Akhilesh Yadav. The meeting sparked speculation that Lalji Verma and Ram Achal Rajbhar could run for assembly on an SP ticket.

Ram Achal Rajbhar was the previous president of the BSP’s Uttar Pradesh unit, and Lalji Verma was the leader of the BSP Legislature Party. Mayawati dismissed them on June 3 after they were accused of anti-party actions during the panchayat elections. Both the Samajwadi Party and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party have declared that they will run in separate polls for the Assembly.
