Ola Electric Mobility officially opened reservations for its anticipated electric scooter, the Ola Scooter with a refundable deposit of Rs. 499. The company stated those who reserve will receive priority delivery; the vehicle’s exact launch date has yet to be announced. However, sources says that it will be released later this month. Bank of Baroda and Ola Electric signed a 10-year debt financing agreement for $100 million earlier this week to fund phase 1 of the Ola Futurefactory, the company’s manufacturing hub for its electric two-wheelers.
Reservations for the Ola Scooter are now available via the Ola Electric portal. Still, the company has not disclosed the exact price. The reservation website had a tough start, with many users, including ourselves, experiencing access issues, but things appear to be back on track now.
“India’s Electric Vehicle revolution starts today with the start of reservations for our electric scooter. It will help expedite the shift to sustainable mobility with its exceptional performance, technology, and design, as well as aggressive pricing,” said Bhavish Aggarwal, Group CEO and Chairman of Ola.
In December 2018, Ola began its journey to create electric scooters in India by investing $100 million (Rs. 745.50 crores) in local company Vogo. In 2019, Ola Electric, the cab aggregator’s electric vehicle (EV) initiative, was spun off and launched in Bengaluru. Last year, the EV business announced an Rs. 2,400 crore investment in its electric scooter manufacturing in Tamil Nadu. The firm, which bills itself as the world’s largest e-scooter factory, claims to be able to make electric scooters every two seconds.
Ola Electric stated in April that it was developing the Ola Hypercharger Network, which it claims is the world’s largest and densest two-wheeler charging infrastructure, with 100,000 high-speed charging points in over 400 Indian towns. It is expected to assist in the establishment of 5,000 points in 100 cities in the first year.
