New Delhi: A total of 1066 candidates will try to contest 71 assembly seats in Bihar in the first phase on October 28, out of which 319 candidates have criminal cases against them.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Kumar Singh told in a press conference held through video conferencing on Wednesday that after scrutiny of nomination papers filed for the first phase of assembly elections on October 9 and withdrawal of nominations on October 12, the total in the electoral field is now There are 1066 candidates left. Of these, 319 are candidates against whom criminal cases have been filed.

Mr. Singh said that in the first phase of the election, Gurua Assembly constituency has the maximum number of 10 candidates against whom criminal cases have been filed. He said that after this, there are more number of such candidates in Dinara and Sheikhpura.

The Additional Chief Electoral Officer said that 340 candidates have filed their nomination papers so far in the second phase of elections to 94 assembly seats on November 03. Out of these, 12 candidates have filed their nomination papers online. For the third phase, the process of filing nomination papers for the election to be held on November 07 in 78 assembly constituencies is going on and so far 19 candidates have filed nomination papers. He said 40 kg of explosives have been recovered in Jamui.
