Balbir Giri has been named the new Mahant of Baghambari Math following the death of Narendra Giri. Balbir Giri has been chosen as the new leader of Baghambari Math, according to Swami Kailashanand Giri Maharaj, the Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of Niranjani Akhada, a major organisation of Hindu seers. According to Niranjani Akhara secretary Mahant Ravindra Puri, the decision will be publicly announced on Thursday in Haridwar.

Balbir Giri was to be made the mahant of Allahabad’s Baghambari Math. Narendra Giri’s lawyer, Rishi Shankar Dwivedi, stated that the deceased Mahant had specified Balbir Giri as his successor in his final will, dated June 4, 2020.

Puri said that the ‘Sodhshi Bhandara,’ a custom of presenting a shawl to a new mahant, will take place on October 5 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Meanwhile, a monitoring committee of five mahants from the Niranjani Akhara will be formed to select the next mahant of the Baghambari Math.
