Yash Verma becomes the Youngest batsmen to score a century

New Delhi : Yash Verma, a 14 year old, Right handed batsman, becomes the youngest Indian batsman to score a century at the Asian Cricket Council’s under-16 Western Region tournament playing for Oman in a match against Maldives. Yash scored 107 runs in 96 balls with a strike rate of 111.46 taking the overall score for his team, Oman, to 271 runs in 30.3 overs. 

Asian Cricket Council’s under 16 Western Region tournament was held in Oman on October 24, 2019. Representing his team, Oman, Yash opened the innings and drove a score to 271 runs in 30.3 overs, scoring his personal best, scoring 107 runs in 96 balls, breaking the record of the youngest batsman to score a century.

Delhi born keeper-batsman, who was born on May 24, 2005, has also toured England, Australia and India to gain exposure to conditions that he would usually not get in the Gulf country.

On breaking the record, Yash says, “Cricket has been my passion. I’ve learned from watching Sachin and Virat on the field and the TV. I respect the role in the game that I’d undertaken and played it to my best. I’m honored to have won the feat and the man of the match. Going forward I’m eager to play in India at IPL, if given a chance.”

Elated with this win, Yash’s father, Akshay Verma said, “This is a heartfelt moment and a proud moment for me, personally. It’s a onetime opportunity and not one everyone’s gets in this age and time. I feel honored to help him pursue his passion.”

Asian Cricket Council has shared the scorecard on the website which showcase the match scores.

Some accolades that have been won by Yash are:

Best Batsman Award (BOC) for Under – 13 Oman Local tournaments at the age of 11 years in 2016.

Got Man of the Match Award in Australia and UK playing for BOC (a recognised Cricket club in Oman) against local clubs & teams of Australia and UK.

– Got Man of the Match award @ the age of 13 years playing for India Celebrity team against Oman Celebrity team in India Vs Oman Celebrity cricket match in January 2019 While playing for Oman under-16 national team he also plays for his Under-19 school team.
