Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday that he is happy about the public transport bus fleet size at 6,900 as it has become the largest so far in Delhi. It was on the occasion of flagging off 100 low-floor and AC buses at Rajghat depot that Kejriwal made such comments. The city transport department is also trying its best to launch 300 electronic buses to move on the road by April this year, said Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot.

As these 100 new buses have been inducted now, the public transport bus fleet size has gone up to 6,900 which is the highest so far. Before there were only 6,000 buses at the time of the Commonwealth Games in 2010. The government is ensuring that a lot of e-buses and other buses are getting procured.

Gahlot also said how it takes the timeline of two to three years for new buses to get launched as the tender process and other official work takes a bit of time and it is not an overnight procedure. Thus, when their government was formulated, they ensured to not have a lack of buses despite no new purchases being made for several years. The buses started getting introduced after the activation of the procurement process was done.
The 100 new buses already have been fixed to operate in rural areas from Ghumanhera bus depot. Public transport has been ensured so that people can travel more. In the meanwhile, also the transport minister shared his happiness on Twitter by writing about the 100 more fully BS-VI compliant AC CNG buses. He appreciated Kejriwal’s dynamic leadership and what Delhi has achieved in 2022, he would like to see more e-buses being added to the fleet.
It is heartening to read such news at a time when the country is again struggling with the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
