Arrest warrants sent to Nawaz Sharif by Pakistan government

Islamabad: Pakistan’s government through its High Commission in London has sent a warrant of arrest to deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. This information was given in a news in the media on Friday. Sharif is living in the UK for medicine.

Sharif has been in London since November last year after he was granted permission to go abroad for four weeks for treatment from the Lahore High Court. His daughter Maryam and son-in-law Muhammad Safdar were convicted on July 6, 2018, in the Avenfield property case. Sharif was sentenced to seven years in prison for his conviction in December 2018 in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case. He was granted bail in both the cases and was also allowed to go to London.

According to Sharif’s lawyer, he was given eight weeks to return to Pakistan, but could not come due to health issues.

The Pakistan High Commission in London has received a warrant for Sharif’s arrest, according to the Dawn newspaper. According to the news, the documents were found on Thursday but the High Commission did not give any official comment on it.

According to the news, sources told the newspaper that the High Commission has received documents related to the arrest of Sharif. Sources said that all legal formalities and procedure will be followed. Sharif was serving a seven-year prison sentence at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore before being allowed to travel to Britain.
