Kathmandu: All Indian news TV channels, except DD News, have been banned in Nepal.

This was then confirmed by Nepal’s information and broadcasting minister Yuba Raj Khativada. As per a tweet shared by India Today Editor Geeta Mohan, Khativada has announced that all Indian news channels except Doordharshan are now banned in Nepal. The order goes into effect from today evening.

Reportedly the decision has come after certain channels indulged in character assassination of leaders.

In recent times, there have been several incidents that have strained the relationship between the two countries. India considers Nepal’s redrawing of its political map to include three strategically important Indian areas as being an “artificial enlargement”. India has called the incorporation of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura “untenable”.

Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Oli faces difficulty. Differences within the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (NCP) do not seem to be ending. According to a media report on Thursday, there has been no consensus between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and party executive president Pushp Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ even after more than half a dozen meetings in a week.

On Wednesday, an important meeting of the 45-member standing committee of NCP was postponed till Friday. This was the fourth consecutive time the party meeting had been postponed so that the two presidents of the party had enough time to resolve the differences. It is expected that the political future of the 68-year-old Oli may be decided during a standing committee meeting on Friday.
