“There was a meeting with PSP national president and an alliance was agreed,” Akhilesh tweeted after the meeting, including a portrait of Shivpal and a sentence in Hindi. The tactic of bringing in regional parties is continually boosting SP and leading it and its supporters to a historic victory.”
Akhilesh has established alliances with the Suheldeo Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), Mahan Dal, and Janwadi Socialist Party, all of whom include non-Yadav OBC castes as supporters. The party has also formed an alliance with the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), a party popular among farmers and Jats in western Uttar Pradesh. However, no agreement on seat-sharing has been reached with any of these parties. The SP’s control over its traditional Yadav voters would be strengthened by its alliance with Shivpal. Shivpal was elected MLA from Jaswantnagar in Etawah in the 2017 Assembly elections under the SP banner.
