New Delhi: The delta (B.1.617.2) variant of the novel coronavirus affects people of all age groups from child to old, but according to the data, people in the age group of 20-30 have been found to be most affected by the delta variant.
According to Public Health England, which monitors the delta variant and its mutations around the world, including India, the delta variant virus appears to affect people of all ages and gender groups. However, genome analysis of Covid-19 cases in Hyderabad and Telugu states is very limited. It is believed that the delta variant was first found in Maharashtra and was initially termed as a double mutant. Corona cases are increasing in the second wave across the country from the delta variant itself.
The delta variant recently found a mutation (K417N) to emerge as delta plus or AY.1, has now found another mutation in the spike protein to emerge as AY.2. Although the AY.1 variant has been found in at least 10 countries, including India, which has eight cases so far. At the same time, AY.2 is limited to the US and it has not yet been found in other places.
