Amarinder Singh, the former Punjab chief minister, met with national security advisor Ajit Doval on Thursday. While additional details about the visit are still being released, the meeting is significant since it comes only one day after Singh met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Singh, who just resigned from the Congress after months of humiliation, claimed he spoke with Shah about the three centrally implemented Agri laws, which have sparked significant farmer demonstrations, amid growing speculation that he would join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Following Navjot Singh Sidhu’s abrupt departure as state Congress president, which threw the party into disarray, Singh said that the former was unfit for a border state like Pakistan. He has previously expressed concern that turmoil in Punjab might have a more significant impact on the country’s security.
Meanwhile, sources claim that Congress has been reaching out to Punjab’s tallest leader days after he resigned as chief minister and stated that his choices were open. Ambika Soni and Kamal Nath, both senior members of the grand old party, are believed to be making every attempt to appease him.

Some of his supporters have been included in Punjab’s newly announced government, led by Charanjit Singh Channi, who took over after Singh’s departure. Channi is expected to meet with Sidhu later in the day, according to a tweet from the latter, who was allegedly unhappy with the new government and quit due to a rift.
