Lucknow: Four Christian nuns of Kerala were taken off the train at Jhansi railway station in Uttar Pradesh by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) people accusing them of forcibly converting religion. All of them were able to board the train again when the police gave them a clean chit for not converting religion. There has been a sharp reaction in Kerala of this incident. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing strong displeasure over this and demanded action against the accused. Amit Shah has given assurance of strict legal action in the case.
Vijayan wrote in his letter, “Such incidents tarnish the image of the country and its religious tolerance. The central government should strongly condemn such incidents. I request that you intervene in this matter and all those involved and take action against organizations that are trying to snatch the civil liberties enjoyed by the Constitution. “
The incident took place on March 19, when some people surrounded the nuns and forcibly got off the train in the Utkal Express going from Haridwar to Puri. A 25-second video has surfaced inside the train associated with this incident, in which nuns are seen surrounded by some people. Some of them are policemen.
